The Bauchi State Police Command on Saturday, April 25, gave details of how some thieves cut off the fingers and ear of a female student of a university in the state while snatching her phone.
The lady, whose name was given as Maryam Yakeem, a 200-level student of Biology Education, at the state-owned Sa’adu Zungur University, was attacked by the thieves on Thursday night close to the main campus of the institution.
The command said the thieves, numbering four, met the woman on the road and demanded her phone, a request she rejected.
However, while attempting to flee from the hoodlums, one of them brought out a sharp knife and cut off two of her fingers while the others inflicted a cut on her ear.
The command admitted that some of the institution living off campus have worries over the way criminals have been terrorising them in recent times.
As of the time of this report, the female student was receiving medical attention at a health facility in the metropolis.
Also confirming the incident, authorities of the university said the lady was rushed to the hospital after receiving reports of the attack.
It added that the incident occurred outside the university environment, contrary to reports on social media that the attack took place within the premises of the university.
