Police operatives in Jigawa State have intercepted two suspected gunrunners attempting to smuggle locally made firearms into neighboring Kano State. The arrests, carried out by officers from the Kazaure Divisional Police Headquarters, occurred on July 8 and July 20, 2025.
The first suspect, 30-year-old Abdussamad Haruna of Dansure village, was apprehended on July 8 at around 6:00 a.m. while transporting a locally made revolver rifle concealed in a sack.
The second suspect, 24-year-old Auwalu Yusuf from Kofar Wambai, Kano, was arrested on July 20 at about 12:30 p.m. He was also found in possession of a similar homemade firearm.
According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, preliminary investigations indicate that both men may be linked to a broader arms trafficking network based in Sabon Layi, Barikin Ladi, Plateau State. The syndicate is suspected of supplying illegal weapons to criminal groups across Kano and Jigawa States.
Police say further investigations are underway, with efforts ongoing to apprehend additional members of the network.
