Men of the Delta State Police Command have uncovered some hard drugs, including cocaine, concealed inside energy saving bulbs and being taken to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The command announced the development in a statement on Wednesday, April 15, saying the driver of the Toyota Sienna who carried the items was arrested and the vehicle as well as the drugs impounded.
It was gathered that on April 13 around 9:00 a.m., operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol (SHP) stationed along the Onicha-Ugbo/Ewohimi Road intercepted the Sienna conveying passengers and heading to Abuja.
The vehicle, driven by one Osuke Stephen, aged 47 years, was subjected to a routine but intelligence-informed search.
During the search, the officers uncovered the substances carefully concealed inside energy saving bulbs. The exhibits recovered included 490 grammes of cocaine, four grammes of Loud, a strain of cannabis, among others.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the substances were being transported to Abuja and effort to arrest other suspects linked to the drugs is ongoing,” the command said in the statement.
The driver was said to have given more useful information to the police operatives and the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
In another development, sustained investigative efforts into a case of conspiracy, cultism, and murder led to another operational breakthrough on the same day as operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), acting on credible intelligence, recovered one pump-action gun with three rounds of live cartridges abandoned at the Ekigbo area of Ughelli.
The recovery is connected to an earlier case in which three suspects were arrested, charged to court, and remanded in prison custody for the murder of one Alex Adanike, which occurred on 15 January 2026 in Ughelli.
Further intelligence revealed that one Eddy Onose, who is currently at large, was in possession of the firearm before abandoning it upon realising he was being trailed. The suspect is also linked to the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known as “ARO BAGGER.”
