Two members of confraternity groups that launched an attack inside a university in Ondo State have been arrested by men of the state police command.
The two cultists, Nnamdi Sunday and Seyi Adegbuyi, who belongs to Eiye and Aye confraternity groups, were said to have taken part in the cult clash that occurred within the premises of the Adeyemi Federal University of Education in Ondo Town.
During the cult clash that occurred on April 9, members of the two rival groups engaged in a violent confrontation that threatened public peace and safety.
However, on April 11, two days after the clash, operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SACS), acting on credible and actionable intelligence provided by the Ondo End Miscreant Group, arrested the two cultists in Ondo Town.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are affiliated with the notorious Eiye and Aiye confraternities, both of which have been linked to recurring incidence of violent rivalry in parts of the state,” the command said in a statement on Wednesday, April 15.
After their arrest, one of them led the operatives to a hideout of the Aye cult group located at Oka Garage area of Ondo Town and a search of the location resulted in the recovery of one locally-made pistol, believed to have been used for criminal activities.
The suspects are currently in police custody and will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) where more investigation would be carried out to uncover the full extent of the network, apprehend other fleeing members, and recover additional arms and ammunition that may be in their hideouts.
“The command further commends the Coordinator of the Ondo End Miscreant Group for the timely and useful information that aided this operation and calls on residents to emulate this example by remaining vigilant and providing credible intelligence to security agencies,” the command added in the statement.
