Some policemen from the Ogun State Command have been accused of demanding the sum of N750,000 as bail after they arrested some young men while playing football.
A man who disclosed this on his X handle on Wednesday morning, told the Nigeria Police that his friend was among those arrested in the Mowe area of Ogun State on Tuesday evening at a football field and they were taken to the Area Command, OPIC Estate.
In a swift reaction however, the Nigeria Police, through its Complaint Response Unit (CRU), urged him to furnish the unit with more details as well as the contact of the relatives of his detained friend.
According to the man, his friend, whose name he gave as Kolawole Adedamola, was on the football field when the officers stormed the place and arrested him and others.
He added that when they got to the Area Command, they were not told their offences, stating that they were grouped into three while the officers allegedly demanded N250,000 from each group, thus making N750,000, in order to be freed.
He wrote: “I contacted CRU headquarters last night, and they referred me to the Lagos/Ogun CRU line. The officer there said they would like to speak directly with someone at the station, but at that time there was no one available to hand the phone to.”
He therefore urged the Nigeria Police authorities to look into the matter.
