The remains of a female lecturer of the Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State, who was crushed to death by a trailer in Lokoja, Kogi State, Dr. Oluwakemi Mercy Emmanuel-Olowonubi, were buried on Friday evening amid tears and tributes.
Dr Olowonubi, a Senior Lecturer in the Theatre Arts Department of the Faculty of Arts, was crushed to death on Wednesday, October 22 along Crusher-Felele Road in Lokoja, the state capital, by a “hit and run” trailer driver on her way home after closing from work.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) while giving an account of the incident, disclosed that when the accident occurred, its rescue operation team her to Kogi State Specialist Hospital, where she was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
However, her remains were laid to rest on Friday at her residence in Lokoja amid tears by mourners and sympathisers, including families, friends, colleagues, students, and members of the community, who trooped out to pay their last respects.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, led the university community, including lecturers, non-teaching staff as well as students, to the venue of the burial where they paid tributes to the impactful life of the woman who, until her death, was the Deputy Dean of Students Affairs.
After the tributes and a short service, her body was lowered into the tomb in the evening as family members, friends and students of her department wept uncontrollably.
