Popular gospel musician, Bunmi Akinnanu Adeoye, who became famous with her hit song entitled: Omije Oju Mi, is dead.
She died on Tuesday, January 13, at a Lagos hospital after battling with an undisclosed ailment for over a year.
Sources close to her disclosed that her death came months after she publicly appealed for prayers and divine healing.
One of her colleagues wrote about her passing: “With great sadness, we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnanu Adeoye (OMIJE OJUMI), who passed away on 12th January 2026 at a Lagos hospital in Nigeria. May God grant her eternal rest.”
In late 2025, a video of Akinnanu surfaced online from a church service at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State. In the footage, she was seen seated with her leg extended while prayers were offered for her recovery.
Bunmi Akinnanu began her full-time musical journey after she left a career in banking.
Adeoye rose to prominence with her debut album titled “Omije Oju Mi” in 2004, which earned her the lasting nickname “Omije Ojumi” (meaning “tears of my eyes”), a song that resonated deeply with Nigerians, and went on to release several tracks that solidified her position as a respected voice in the industry.
