A member of a two-man robbery gang who disguised as passengers and attacked a commercial motorcycle rider in order to steal his bike has been arrested by men of the Ondo State Police Command.
The command announced the incident on Thursday morning, as it said the robber was apprehended when the act was being committed at the Achievers area, Sijuwade, Akure, the state capital, while the other member of the gang escaped.
It was gathered that the rider, Omoniyi Elijah, was attacked by the two passengers who attempted to snatch his motorcycle after they asked him to take them to a destination.
In the course of the struggle, one of the robbers, later identified as Ahmed Tijani, was said to have stabbed the Okada rider multiple times with a knife, but despite the injuries inflicted on him, the man raised the alarm with got the attention of the people in the area.
They were said to have raced to the scene, apprehended the robber and made a distress call to the men of the Oda Divisional Headquarters of the command. The robber was eventually handed to the officers.
The command wrote: “The victim was immediately taken to the hospital for urgent medical care and has since been discharged, while the stolen motorcycle was recovered on 5th November.”
The robber was said to have given more useful information to the police operatives and he is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation. Also, a manhunt had been launched for the fleeing member of the gang.
