A woman who was said to have used a pestle to kill her co-wife during a domestic disagreement at a community in Bauchi State has been arrested by men of the state police command.
The incident occurred at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate, Bauchi metropolis on Sunday, September 27, when the lady, Hauwa’u Haruna, aged 33 years, said to be the second wife had a brawl with the first wife, Jamila Adamu, aged 43 years, in their husband’s house.
It was gathered that during the brawl, Hauwa’u picked a pestle in the house, used it to hit the first wife in the head, causing her to become unconscious.
Due to her unresponsiveness, the neighbours were said to have made a distress call to the police and upon receiving the call, detectives attached to C-Division of the command raced to the scene.
The operatives rushed the first wife to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where she was pronounced dead on arrival by a medical doctor on duty while her corpse has been deposited at the hospital mortuary.
“Meanwhile, the suspect has been arrested and the pestle used in the commission of the offence has been recovered as exhibit,” the command said in a statement on Monday, September 28.
The case has also been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigation and prosecution.
