The Sokoto State government has announced a total ban on the idea of Senior Secondary School 3 students holding what is now popularly known as ‘signing-out’ celebrations immediately after writing their last examination papers.
The government announced the ban through a statement on Thursday, July 16, saying it became necessary because the celebrations have led to acts of indiscipline and inappropriate interactions between male and female students.
The government said the ban will be in force in all public and private secondary schools within Sokoto metropolis and its surrounding areas while the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education said the decision was taken to ensure peace, security and protect the dignity of educational institutions.
The govenment said the celebrations are contrary to the moral values and cultural traditions of Sokoto State.
The state government therefore directed school principals and administrators to work closely with security agencies to maintain law and order on the day SSS3 students sit for their final examinations.
It warned that any school principal who fails to comply with this directive will face appropriate disciplinary action.
