A neighbour of Somtochukwu ‘Sommie’ Mmaduagwu, the late ARISE TV news anchor, Sani Yusuf, is organising a fundraising to support the family of the security guard killed during the robbery attack in Sommie’s Abuja residence.
The armed security guard at the residence, identified as Barnabas, was the second person who died from the robbery attack.
Recall that Sommie died in the early hours of Monday, September 29, after an armed robbery attack at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja.
In a tweet on his X page, Sommie’s neighbour, Sani Yusuf, said the fundraiser was ongoing for Barnabas, who left behind a wife and child.
He added that the funds raised would go directly to Barnabas’ widow.
In the tweet, Sani asked people who would love to contribute to the family to send a message to him privately for the details.
The post read, “We are doing a fundraiser for Barnabas. If you would like to chip in, please privately message me for details. The funds collected will go directly to his wife.”
In the aftermath of the robbery, Sani had shared details of how Barnanbas died, stating that he was the first victim to be attacked during the robbery.
In a tweet, Sani stated that Barnabas, the armed security officer at the residence, tried to stop the robbers from gaining access to Sommie’s residence during the robbery attack, but was shot in the process.
“I personally drove him to the hospital to get treated. I watched him pass on right in front of me hours later as he lost too much blood. He leaves behind a small family with one child,” Sani wrote.
Recall also that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, on Thursday, October 9, announced the arrest of 12 suspected robbers over alleged involvement in the death of Sommie and the security guard.
The police said four of the suspects were arrested through the tracking of the phones stolen from the building shortly after the incident.
It added that one of the suspects confessed to have shot the security guard when he attempted to prevent them from gaining access to the building.
