Ten Nigerians who hid inside a ship that was heading to Panama have been arrested in Ghana when the ship docked in the country.
The Ghana Navy announced the arrest in a statement on Monday night, saying the Nigerians, who had sneaked into the ship when it was about to take off in Lagos on Friday, were found inside it at Tema Port.
They were arrested by the country’s Navy on-board the Panamanian Merchant Vessel named Grand Venus following a call received from workers at the port.
Ghana Navy wrote: “Preliminary investigation revealed that the stowaways, all Nigerian nationals, sneaked into the ship while it docked at Lagos Port, Nigeria.
“The vessel, together with the stowaways, were escorted to the main harbour and handed over to the appropriate authorities including Port Control, Ghana Immigration Service and Marine Police for further investigation.”
The Navy said investigation regarding how they were able to beat security system at the Lagos Port and their motive for sneaking into the ship had commenced and the stowaways will face the full wrath of the law.
