Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, on Monday, November 2, celebrated the defection of the Bayelsa State Governor, Duoye Diri, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Keyamo said the defection of the governor has shown that the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle in the South-South has moved into place, adding that officially, five of the six states of the South-South are now in APC.
With the defection of the governor, all the states in the South-South except Rivers State are now under the control of the APC. They are Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
In fact, according to Keyamo, Rivers State that is under the control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has its national leader, Nyesom Wike, actively participating in APC government as a minister and fully supporting the aspiration of President Bola Tinubu for second term.
He therefore said the APC, from the position of a weak party in the region during the 2015, 2019 and 2023 election, has now got to the position of absolute advantage and strength for the 2027 election.
He wrote: “Officially, five of the six states of the South-South are now in APC, while the sixth has a leader and minister in active, open support of the President. From a position of absolute weakness in 2015, 2019 and 2023 to a position of absolute advantage and strength ahead of 2027, welcome home, Governor Duoye Diri.”
Earlier, the national chairman of the party, Nentawe Yilwatda, had earlier in a statement welcomed the governor to what he described as the “broom revolution.”
“The Broom Revolution. Welcome to our family and party, Governor Duoye Diri,” he wrote on his verified X handle.
