The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NSCDC) early on Sunday morning revealed that the tests carried out on two suspected cases of Ebola in the North-East have come out negative.
It also confirmed that the suspected cases were discovered in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.
The agency had said on Saturday that two suspected cases of Ebola disease have been identified in Nigeria’s North-East region, but did not reveal the particular locations in the region.
The agency said both individuals were isolated, while contact identification and listing was ongoing and laboratory testing was also being conducted.
“Being classified as suspected cases does not mean they are confirmed Ebola cases; confirmation is subject to laboratory results,” it said in a statement on Saturday.
However, giving an update on its X handle on Sunday, the agency said it worked with the Adamawa State government in investigating the two cases and they came out negative for Ebola.
It wrote: “NCDC is working with the Adamawa State government to investigate two suspected Ebola cases reported in Yola, which were isolated and tested. Samples turned out NEGATIVE for Ebola virus after two rounds of testing.
“The index case previously confirmed in the FCT remains the only confirmed case reported in Nigeria to date.
“The public is urged to remain calm and obtain information from official government and public health channels.
“Anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, particularly following relevant exposure, should seek immediate medical attention and inform healthcare workers of any relevant travel or contact history.”
