Tottenham Hotspur are preparing a late move for Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman after their pursuit of Manchester City’s Savinho hit a dead end.
The North London club have been searching for attacking reinforcements ahead of a demanding season that includes domestic challenges and a return to the UEFA Champions League. Spurs had identified Savinho as their priority target and were reportedly ready to smash their transfer record to secure the 21-year-old Brazilian.
However, City made their stance clear this week. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League champions informed Tottenham they have no intention of selling Savinho, not even for offers exceeding €70 million, as the winger is regarded as central to both their current campaign and long-term plans.
With that door firmly shut, Spurs are now shifting focus. Journalist Ben Jacobs reports that Lookman and Xavi Simons have emerged as key alternatives. Simons appears to be leaning toward Chelsea, having agreed personal terms, leaving Lookman as Tottenham’s more realistic target.
The Nigerian international has endured a turbulent summer at Atalanta, spending weeks pushing for a move. He was linked with Inter Milan earlier in the window, but the deal collapsed over valuation.
Now, with just four days left before the transfer window closes, Spurs are ready to test Atalanta’s resolve with a bid of around €50 million — a fee the Italian side are expected to accept.
For Lookman, desperate to leave, and Spurs, desperate for depth, the deal appears increasingly likely.
