Two members of a kidnapping gang were arrested while others escaped and 12 victims were rescued when men of the Nigerian Army carried out a raid on their den at a community in Enugu State.
Troops of the 82 Division Garrison under Operation EASTERN SANITY carried out the raid in Ette Community, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of the state on Friday, March 6.
It was gathered that the raid followed a distress call received about the abduction of residents of the community by the kidnappers.
After receiving the call, the troops mobilised in conjunction with police operatives, Forest Guards and members of the Neighbourhood Watch, advancing to the area where the victims were believed to have been taken.
Upon their arrival, the troops commenced aggressive search and fighting patrols across the general area in an effort to track down the kidnappers and secure the victims’ release.
According to sources, overwhelmed by the rapid response of the troops, the kidnappers abandoned their captives and fled the scene. The troops thereafter pursued the fleeing criminals while securing the area.
During the exploitation of the location, all the 12 kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed while two men linked to the kidnapping were arrested and are being interrogated to track down other members of the gang
They are expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
