Two children who were said to have gone missing when they were sent to fetch water in Anambra State nine months ago have been found by men of the state police command in Edo and Delta states.
According to a statement by the command on Tuesday, operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Gender Section rescued the two children, Sunday Aliya (14 years) and Ebenezer Emmanuel (12 years), after nine months of intensive and intelligence-led investigation that extended across several states of the federation.
The command disclosed that a case of missing children was reported at Fegge Police Station on January 18, 2025 which indicated that their guardian sent them to fetch water at a nearby borehole, but they did not return home.
After the matter was reported, the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for further action.
The operatives of the command, acting on credible intelligence, traced and arrested one Yusuf in Katsina State. During interrogation, he was said to have provided valuable leads which guided the operatives to Umunede, Delta State, where one of the children, Sunday Aliya, was rescued.
Further investigation also led to the recovery of the second victim, Ebenezer Emmanuel, in Benin City, Edo State.
The rescued children are currently in the custody of the command while efforts are on to contact their biological parents in order to reunite with their children.
