Two junior personnel of the Nigerian Immigration Service have been dismissed from service after they were found to have been involved in kidnapping, stealing, illegal possession of firearms, among others.
The Nigerian Immigration Service announced their dismissal in a statement on Friday, October 24, which indicated that the two personnel, Aliyu Usman and Nancy Ngozi Chukwu, were dismissed following completion of internal disciplinary proceedings.
It was gathered that the male and female junior personnel were involved in the criminal activities between April and September this year.
They were arrested for allegedly masterminding the kidnappings of Nancy’s elder brother, Friday Chukwu, and another man, Igwe Denis Chibueze, a manager at China Oriental Quarry Company in Enugu State.
They and their accomplices reportedly collected ₦30 million ransom for the brother’s release and ₦10 million for the release of the other victim. They were later arrested by men of the Enugu State Police Command.
Their dismissal was part of the various disciplinary measures by the Board of Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services which also imposed some disciplinary actions on some officers of the Immigration Service.
In the sanctions imposed, eight officers were dismissed from the Service for serious misconduct and violation of service regulations, five were compulsorily retired for offences bordering on misconduct while eight others were demoted by one rank.
Furthermore, five officers were issued letters of warning for misconduct while the appeal of two personnel challenging their dismissal was rejected due to what the Board described as “lack of merit.”
