Kano State High Court on Tuesday, March 3, sentenced two men to death by hanging for stabbing a newly-married man to death with a knife after robbing him of phones and money.
The two men, Aliyu Hussaini and Amir Zakariyya, were convicted of conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide after they stabbed the man, Yazid Haruna, to death..
The prosecution counsel, Mr Lamido Abba-Sorondinki, told the court that the two convicts committed the offence on June 11, 2025, at Sheka Sabuwar Abuja Quarters, Kano.
He said that around 2.47 a.m, on the day, the men armed themselves with long knives as well as machete and carried out the dastardly act..
“They robbed the victim of his two mobile phones, a sum of N19,500 and caused his death by stabbing him in the stomach, chest and head,” Abba-Sorondinki said.
The prosecution presented three witnesses and tendered medical reports to prove their case against the convicts..
They however, denied committing the offence.
The defence counsel, Mr Haruna Saleh-Zakariyya, after presenting his defence, eventually pleaded for leniency.
Delivering judgment, Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.
“The action of the two men is inhuman. Cases of phone theft have become rampant
“I hereby sentence them to one year imprisonment for conspiracy, life imprisonment for robbery. They are hereby sentenced to death by hanging for culpable homicide,” the judge said.
