There was a protest in the Ido area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Friday morning after the body of a 62-year-old woman was found seven days after she was killed when she went to gather vegetables in the bush.
Two persons have however been arrested by the state police command in connection with the incident and are already giving the command useful information regarding the incident.
It was gathered that the woman was killed at Ori-Apata, Oderemi area of Ido Local Government Area, Ibadan and her body was found in the bush on Wednesday.

She was reported to have gone to gather vegetables when she was accosted, assaulted and killed.

The command said a good Samaritan discovered the woman’s body in the bush path within the community and reported the incident to the police.

Speaking on the incident, the command said: “We immediately deployed our personnel to the scene, where the body of the woman was found with a deep cut on her neck.

“Findings by our detectives revealed that the corpse had been at the location for at least seven days prior to its discovery.

“Investigations conducted by the police led to the arrest of the two suspects.”

However, following the discovery of the body, residents of the community held a protest, denouncing the killing and insisting that others involved in the gruesome act should be fished out.

The situation was, however, brought under control through the  intervention of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ido Police Station in collaboration with the authorities of the local government.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, has ordered the deployment of police personnel to maintain public order, strengthen visibility policing, and reassure residents of their safety.
