Some gunmen suspected to be bandits have again struck, attacking villagers at a community in Zamfara State, killing at least 30 villagers.
The bandits attacked Dutsin Dan Ajiya village in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Thursday night, firing indiscriminately at residents which resulted in the killing of both men and women in the village.
A source close to the local government told Impact Nigeria News Online on Friday afternoon that apart from those killed, some of the villagers were injured while others were abducted by the marauders.
However, while the attack was ongoing, it was gathered that various distress calls made to security agencies were allegedly not responded to.
The source also said the villagers were caught unawares with the attack because the local government had earlier signed “peace deal” with bandits for protection of residents under the local government.
This latest attack comes at a time when Islamic religious leaders like Sheikh Musa Asadus‑Sunnah have urged bandits to observe ceasefire or reduce their violent activities during month of Ramadan.
The Northern part of the country, especially the North-West, has been under the grips of bandits and terrorists for some time, as the marauders used to launch attacks on various communities, killing residents and abducting others.
