The notorious Otedola Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was in the news again on Tuesday, December 23, when a fully-loaded petrol tanker rammed into six vehicles on the bridge.
Two persons sustained serious injuries during the accident that occurred at inward Berger area of the bridge apparently as a result of brake failure on the part of the tanker.
Sources at the scene of the incident disclosed that the driver of the speeding trailer suddenly lost the brake and in the process, rammed into the vehicles.
It was however sheer Divine Grace that saved people in the vehicles, especially the commercial buse, as the passengers jumped out before the trailer caused the damage.
However, two persons were unlucky as they sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital in Berger.
The Lagos State Police Command also confirmed the accident on its Facebook page, saying its men stationed at the bridge provided rescue efforts with other emergency responders.
The command wrote: “Our men stationed at Otedola Bridge responded swiftly to a multiple vehicle accident that occurred at Otedola Bridge, outward Lagos (inward Berger), involving a fully-loaded petrol tanker and six other vehicles.
“No lives were lost in the incident. However, two persons sustained serious injuries and were promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention.
“Emergency responders are currently on ground, and efforts are ongoing to clear the affected vehicles and restore free flow of traffic.”
