The younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adelabu and her twin sons who were rescued on Saturday night from their abductors have been admitted into a hospital for comprehensive medical attention.
The woman and her children were abducted last Wednesday while she was taking her children to school around 7:30 a.m. at the Elewura, Challenge area of Ibadan.
However, a competent source close to the family told Impact Nigeria News Online on Saturday night that immediately after their rescue, they were taken to a foremost hospital in the city (names withheld) for comprehensive medical attention and they will be reunited with their family members after that.
It was also gathered that contrary to reports that they were rescued by men of the Oyo State Police Command, they were actually rescued by operatives from the Force Intelligence Department -Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) with support from the state police command.
Also, it was gathered that during the rescue operation, two of the abductors were killed while others escaped with gunshot injuries during a gun duel with the kidnappers while two weapons were recovered.
The Nigeria Police Force, in a statement regarding the rescue, said it was achieved through sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical operations, and the efforts enabled investigators to track the kidnappers’ movements, resulting in a confrontation with FID-IRT operatives.
“During the confrontation, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded and two rifles were recovered.
“The victims were rescued unharmed and are now in safe custody, receiving medical care and support,” the Force Headquarters stated.
It added that efforts had been intensified in the area by security operatives in order to apprehend fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate.
It also said that operations are ongoing to track, arrest, and bring all involved to justice.
Reacting to the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, commended the courage, professionalism and effectiveness of the FID-IRT operatives and all officers involved, saying that their resilience and commitment were instrumental in the safe rescue of the victims.
