President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended the initiative about the RUGA Settlement Projects.
The president, after consultations with stakeholders, has resolved to put on hold the idea for a thorough assessment and suitable approach to the menace constituted to national security by the constant clashes between herdsmen and farmers.
According to a presidency source, announcement would be made any moment from now with detailed explanations, going forward.
The RUGA project has been critically objected by almost all the geopolitical interests in the country. Just yesterday, the Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka described the RUGA settlement project as elementary.
Soyinka said this at the inauguration of the United Nations Solutions 17 SDG programme in Lagos. He said the Ruga project of the Federal Government was not the best approach to resolving the herders-farmers’ clashes and could spark an explosion in the country.
