In a show of bravery, some vigilantes were said to have pursued bandits who attacked residents at a community in Sokoto State, killing three of them while others fled with various degrees of injuries.

According to sources close to government circle, on Thursday night, armed bandits invaded Kabunga community in Kware Local Government Area of Sokoto State, injuring one resident and rustling a large number of cattle.

However, as they were leaving, the vigilantes in the community mobilised, pursued the attackers towards Maikujera, Angamba and Gidan Buwai villages where they caught up with them.

The sources told Impact Nigeria News Online that the vigilantes engaged them in gun duel during which three of the bandits were killed while the others fled in different directions with gunshot injuries. The cattle stolen by the bandits were all recovered.

The community was said to have erupted in joy when the vigilantes returned with the stolen cattle while they promised to continue guarding the residents from any attack.

Sokoto State, like others in the North, has had a fair share of bandit attacks as the marauders used to strike mostly at night, abducting residents and carting away their valuables.

The state government is yet to respond to the latest efforts of the vigilantes in repelling bandit attacks.
