Major General Waidi Shaibu is a Nigerian Army officer who recently served as the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, with a focus on counter-terrorism in the North-East.
He handed over as Theatre Commander in April 2025 and proceeded to the Defence Space Agency in Abuja.
During his tenure as Theatre Commander, his forces neutralised hundreds of terrorists, recovered significant arms and ammunition, and rescued thousands of captives.
He was also a one time General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division and Commander, Sector 1 of Operation HADIN KAI.
He also served as the Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies at the National Defence College in Abuja.
He takes over as the Chief of Army Staff from Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, who has become the Chief of Defence Staff following the replacements made by President Bola Tinubu on Friday.
