Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, on Saturday reacted to his expulsion by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at its ongoing convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, saying the expulsion was a joke.
Wike, in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, said those who expelled him and ten other chieftains of the party were doing their own ‘Dirty December’ in November.
The leadership of the party on Saturday evening announced the expulsion of Wike, former Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, embattled National Secretary of the party, Senator Sam Anyanwu, from the party during its national convention held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Others expelled were Honourable Umar Bature, Adeyemi Ajibade, Mohammed Abdulrahman, Senator Mao Ohuanbunwa, Austine Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah, George Turner and Chief Dan Orbih.
The former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Bode George, while delivering his speech at the convention moved the motion for the expulsion of the party leaders as he said their activities, including taking the party to courts, amounted to lack of discipline in following the rules and regulations of the party.
After Chief George moved the motion for their expulsion and was seconded by another party chieftain, the motion was put to voice vote and it received a massive aye and no one opposed.
However, a few hours after the expulsion, Wike said those at the place only gathered in Ibadan to do social party, adding that they enjoyed themselves and got intoxicated, so they are free to say anything.
The statement reads: “They went Ibadan to start Dirty December in November
“When people decided to start their own Dirty December in November, one can’t but ignore whatever comes out of their mouths.
“They gathered in Ibadan to do social party, enjoyed themselves and got intoxicated, they are free to say anything.”
