The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken over the Wadata Plaza national secretariat of the party.
The faction immediately took over the national secretariat after the FCT Police Command unsealed it on Saturday, April 11. The building was shut for 19 weeks following the protracted crises rocking the party
The Secretariat was sealed off on November 19, 2025 following the leadership crisis between the Tanimu Turaki faction loyal to the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde and the Abdulrahman Mohammed faction loyal to Wike.
The crises spiralled into serious violence, forcing the police to seal off the building.
However, it was gathered on Saturday that while the final determination of the dispute is pending before the Supreme Court, the police, acting on an Abuja Federal High Court judgment, unsealed the building and handed it over to the faction loyal to Wike
The Wike camp of the party also on Saturday celebrated the decision to hand over the secretariat to it, describing it as an exhibition of professionalism and adherence to the rule of law.
National Publicity Secretary of the faction, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, reacting on behalf of his camp in Abuja, said, “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hereby informs all members and the general public that the party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, have been unsealed by the Nigeria Police Force and handed over to the National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara and Senator Samuel Anyawu, National Secretary in full compliance with duly issued court orders.
“The party commends the Nigeria Police Force for its professionalism and adherence to the rule of law. This action is a clear demonstration of respect for constitutional order and due process.”
The camp therefore warned groups and individuals it described as ‘impostors’ against embarking on any actions that will cause trouble at the party offices.
“The party strongly warns that it will not condone any act capable of causing obstruction, disruption, or breach of peace at the secretariat again.
“All individuals and groups are advised to conduct themselves within the bounds of the law, as security agencies have been duly alerted to take necessary action against violators.”
Meanwhile, the Turaki faction of the party on Saturday kicked against the decision to hand over the unsealed office to the other faction, saying that it amounted to contempt of court as the suits on the leadership crisis were pending before the Supreme Court.
