Upon stopping the truck, police learned that the woman hanging from the back of the truck was the driver’s wife.
Apparently, she had become convinced that he was having an affair and had decided to follow him as he left home, so she could catch him in the act.
As the man got into his truck one night, she snuck out of the house and grabbed onto the back of the vehicle.
Police said she was incredibly lucky to be alive, as if her husband had driven at a higher speed, or the road had been bumpier, she could have fallen to her death.
The woman, identified by Chinese media only as Mrs. Yu, ended up costing her husband a small fine of 200 yuan ($29) as well as three points deducted from his annual 12-point record for failing to properly check his truck before leaving home.
The unusual story went viral on Chinese social media and was used by authorities as a cautionary tale for couples, advising them to resolve domestic issues through conversations and counselling, rather than daring stunts.
