A woman who was said to have buried her 22-carat gold as well as a gold bracelet before fleeing attack by the Islamic insurgents, Boko Haram, 15 years ago, has returned to where she buried them and they were found there.
In fact, it was gathered that the two items are now worth N26.3 million.
The woman, (names withheld for security reason) who was said to have fled Mallamfatori during the Boko Haram attack in 2010, recently returned to the town.
She then visited the Mallamfatori Divisional Headquarters and sought the assistance of the officers to retrieve the items she buried while escaping the attack.
According to the Borno State Police Command in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Daso, the officers followed her, dug the ground where she buried the items and successfully recovered the gold, now said to have worth ₦20 million, as well as a gold bracelet with chain, now worth N3.6 million.
What the officers did by retrieving the items and giving them to the woman received commendation, especially from the Commissioner of Police.
“The Commissioner of Police in the state praised the officers for their honesty, dedication, and service, noting that their actions reflect the core values of the Nigeria Police Force and further strengthen public confidence in law enforcement,” the statement added.
