The Zamfara State government has kept mum regarding the abduction of a local government chairman in the state who was kidnapped two months ago and has spent 40 days in the kidnappers den.
Forty days ago, on July 25, the marauders abducted the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of the state, Nura Umar Abdullahi, from his residence in Bungudu town and has been with them since then.
His wife and children, who were abducted with him, were later released after the attack, with his wife saying the bandits told them they had come specifically for the man.
Two other residents were also abducted and they were Halliru Ahmad Soja, a staff member of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Gusau and Hussaini “Naira,” a local POS operator and recharge card vendor.
The attack claimed the lives of four members of the chairman’s security team and they were Inspector Basiru Lawal, Constable Hamza Muhammad, Nura Imam and Ibrahim Baare.
During the attack, the chairman’s elder brother, Alhaji Bello Umar Abdullahi, a former Treasury Officer with the Zamfara State Ministry of Finance, was also injured.
In fact, residents of the town and the local government area are now furious over the continued stay of the LG boss with the kidnappers, with some of them accusing the state government of showing lack of concern over the man’s plight.
The residents have gone further to make a flyer which indicated that they will not allow politicians from any political party to enter the town for campaign activities until Abdullahi is released.
They have also appealed to the state government and security agencies to expedite actions in order to rescue the chairman from the den of kidnappers.
