Fourteen persons were killed while many others were injured and scores abducted when gunmen suspected to be bandits launched attacks on two communities in Katsina State.
The gunmen were said to have attacked Golgoro community in Sukuntuni ward of Kankia Local Government Area as well as Na’alma community in Malumfashi Local Government Area of the state on Sunday afternoon.
During the attack on Golgoro community, the marauders were said to have killed 10 persons and injured many others after which they went away with an unspecified number of residents.
In the attack on the second community, the gunmen reportedly ambushed members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) who were were on a routine patrol in the community. Four operatives of the outfit were killed and two others were injured.
A source close to the state told Impact Nigeria News Online on Monday morning that the attacks came despite peace agreements reportedly reached between various stakeholders at the local government level and bandits less than two weeks ago.
Katsina State has, for some time, has been under the grips of bandits and terrorists who unleash mayhem on residents of various communities in the state, killing people and abducting others.
In many instances during the attacks, residents disclosed that various distress calls made to security agencies were allegedly ignored, thereby giving the bandits enough times to attack communities unchallenged.
