A 15-year-old teenager has been arrested by officials of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources after he was found with a Point of Sales (POS) machine as well as an account details while soliciting for alms on the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
It was gathered that the boy, Mafus Azeez, always comes to the expressway and will aggressively solicit for alms by displaying bank account details and operating a POS device on the road in order to get money from motorists who don’t have cash with them.
He was said to have been warned many times to desist from standing on the ever-busy expressway but all the warnings fell on his deaf ears.
The long arm of the law therefore caught up with him when officials of the ministry swooped on him while carrying out the act on Monday and arrested him.
His arrest was one of those announced by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on his verified X handle on Monday night.
According to him, also on Monday, 18 beggars were apprehended along the Ketu-Mile 12 axis for constituting environmental nuisance and obstructing public spaces.
Thirty-eight miscreants were equally arrested for soliciting alms and causing traffic disruptions along the same Lekki–Epe Expressway.
The commissioner added that arrests were part of the ongoing enforcement and mop-up operations across key corridors of the state while the enforcement will be a continuous one.
