A 15-year-old teenager who organised his own kidnap in collaboration with his 17-year-old friend and demanded for ransom from his father has been arrested by men of the Niger State Police Command along with the friend at a hotel where they hid.
The teenager, Kelvin Faga, and the friend, Mayowa Ojewuyi, were picked up at a hotel in Suleja area of the state where they hatched the fake kidnapping plot.
It was gathered that a report was received from the parents of Kelvin at B Divisional Headquarters, Suleja, indicating that on July 20, he went to church and did not return home.
The parents added that the following day, July 21, they received a phone call informing them that the boy had been abducted and the caller demanded a ransom of ₦200,000 for his release.
On receipt of the information, police operatives from the division commenced investigation and acting on credible intelligence, the said Kelvin was found at a hotel in Suleja on July 25 along with Mayowa.
During interrogation, they were said to have confessed that they wanted to collect the ₦200,000 from Kelvin’s father which they planned to share and spend for their enjoyment.
They were said to have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) undergoing further investigation.
In another development, on July 25 about 7.30 p.m., Police Safer Highway Patrol team stationed at Pogo village via Paiko, during a routine stop and search, arrested one Malachi Bitrus of Munya area with a locally-made gun and three rounds of AK-47 live ammunition.
The suspect was taken to Paiko Division and during interrogation, he claimed to be a vigilante and forest officer but he couldn’t give a satisfactory account of himself, as well as the gun in his possession.
