A man who specialised in taking young girls from Nigeria to Ghana for prostitution after luring them with a promise of lucrative jobs has told men of the Adamawa State Police Command during his arrest that he had taken only 10 girls to the country.
The state police command announced the arrest in a statement on Thursday night, saying while the man, whose name was given as Hamza Hammantukur Isa, aged 40 years, was arrested, his female accomplices are currently at large.
Two of the girls who were about to be taken to Ghana, aged 18 and 19, were also rescued during his arrest.
It was gathered that on November 12, the operatives attached to the State Intelligence Department (SID), Yola, acted on an intelligence report which led to the man’s arrest.
During investigation, he was found have specialised in trafficking young girls from Adamawa State to Ghana for sexual exploitation using false promises of lucrative jobs in the neighbouring country.
The command wrote: “Preliminary investigation revealed that the man has been engaging in the act since 2023, during which he told the police operatives that he had so far trafficked 10 young girls in collaboration with two female accomplices who are currently at large.
The man was said to have given more useful information to the operatives about his nefarious activities and he will be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
“Also, efforts are on top gear to trace and arrest the collaborators of this crime and possible rescue of more trafficked victims,” the command added.
