Eighteen residents of a community in Zamfara State who were abducted a few weeks ago have regained their freedom after their family members and community leaders paid millions as ransom to their abductors.
The 18 persons were said to have been abducted in Daki Takwas community, Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, in December and had spent weeks in captivity before they regained their freedom around noon on Tuesday, January 6.
A competent source close to the community told Impact Nigeria News Online on Tuesday that while the 18 residents have regained their freedom, some other residents are still with the bandits as the marauders were said to have demanded more ransom before they would be released.
The arrival of the 18 residents threw the community into wild jubilation as the leaders and other stakeholders in the community said they are hopeful that others that are with the bandits will be released soon.
The Northern part of the country, especially the North-West, has been in the grips of bandits and terrorists who unleash mayhem on communities, killing residents, abducting others and razing homes ablaze.
