The men of the Delta State Police Command are currently unraveling the circumstances surrounding the decision of an elder brother to stab his younger brother multiple times over a missing pair of bathroom slippers that resulted in his death.
The incident occurred on June 17 when the elder brother, Fejiro Obieri, aged 21 years, stabbed his younger brother, Joseph Obieri, aged 19 years, multiple times during an altercation in their hostel over the missing slippers.
They are both students of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE).
While Fejiro was said to be a 200-level student of the institution, his late younger brother was a100-level student.
It was gathered that the case was reported at the Ebrumede Divisional Headquarters after the elder brother fled the scene after carrying out the act.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Bright Edafe, in a video regarding the incident posted by him on Monday, June 22, the two brothers initially engaged in a fight in their off-campus hostel and were separated by other students. Still angry with each other, they later went to the back of the building to continue the fight.
“During the fight at the back of the building, the elder brother brought out a knife and stabbed his younger brother multiple times and ran away. Up till now, his whereabouts are unknown,” Edafe said in the video.
Edafe added that a manhunt had been launched for the arrest of the elder brother over the killing while the body of the younger brother had been deposited in a mortuary.
