Gunmen on Saturday, July 18, abducted three siblings while they were conveying the corpse of their mother for burial at a community in Benue State.
The abduction took place around 6:00 a.m. whEN they were on their way to Iklenyi community in the Okpokwu Local Government Area of the state.
The gunmen were said to have abducted them between Omutele and Ankpechi along Ogobia-Otukpo road in Oglewu District of Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State.
A source who witnessed the incident disclosed that residents of the community heard gunshots early on Saturday morning,
The source said the residents initially thought the gunshots were from the herdsmen but they later gathered that gunmen kidnapped the siblings who were conveying the corpse of their mother from Abuja to the Iklenyi community.
Also on Saturday, Chairman of Ohimini Local Government Area of the state, Gabriel Adole, confirmed the abduction of the siblings, saying that others who escaped the abduction later brought the corpse to its destination.
When the state police command was contacted about the incident, its Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, told newsmen that she was yet to get the details of the report.
It will be recalled that two week ago, gunmen ambushed a convoy conveying the remains of an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Augustine Ikwue, along the Ochadamu–Ejule road in Kogi State
The mourners were accompanying the corpse to his home town near Otukpo Local Government Area in Benue State when gunmen abducted them and briefly seized the corpse, which was later abandoned and recovered for burial.
