The Delta State Police on Saturday gave chilling details of how a 54-year-old father defiled his three daughters at different occasions and also had carnal knowledge of other girls.
The man, Edward Ngozi Odega, was arrested by operatives of the command after he carried out the shameful act with his three daughters aged between 13 and 24.
In fact, he told operatives that he actually started the shameful act seven years ago.
Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Bright Edafe, who spoke on the incident in a video he posted on his X handle on Saturday, said that the act was exposed when the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ogborikoko Division, CSP Temi Agbede Zuokumor, went round schools on an enlightenment outreach as part of proactive policing.
The DPO, according to Edafe, addressed the students, particularly senior ones, telling them not to hide whatever they could be going through.
She told them they were free to talk and let the public know if they were being defiled, molested, or going through any kind of pain.
The outreach paid off when one of the man’s daughters, who is 15 years old, was noticed by her friend crying when the talk was going on
The PPRO said: “When the friend asked the man’s daughter why she was crying, the girl opened up on her father defiling her and her sisters.
“Her friend also told her that the father did it to her when she came visiting, and that was why she stopped coming to their house.”
The police spokesman stated that the daughter’s ordeal led to the arrest of the father, and during investigation, it was found out that the man was also doing the same with his other two daughters.
The father, when interviewed, confessed to having incestuous relationship with his three daughters, adding that he started the sexual relationship seven years ago.
“I don’t know why I was doing it. It is just an evil urge. I have three daughters and I have slept with all of them. My youngest daughter is 13 years old. I used to have sex with them in our house. My action breaks my heart,” he said.
The eldest daughter, who is 24 years old, however said that her father started sleeping with her when she was 12 years old and in Primary Six.
“I was shy to tell anyone because I knew it was an abomination. My sisters did not tell me they were also going through the same thing. I learnt of it through their school after the outreach,” the eldest daughter said.
The 15-year-old daughter, who opened up to her friend before the matter became known, said that she started crying when the DPO came to their school to counsel them on exposing wrong things.
She stated: “I told my classmate that my father was defiling me.”
The PPRO said that the Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has ordered further investigation into the case.
