The long arm of the law has caught up with seven young men who specialised in robbing motorists and commuters on the Bolade Bridge in the Oshodi area of Lagos State, especially early in the morning and late at night.

The armed robbers were arrested by men of the Lagos State Environmental Task Force in the early hours of Monday, January 12, following a tip-off regarding their activities on the bridge.

The names of those arrested were given as Samuel Olumide (aged 19 years), Quadri Oladipupo (aged 21 years), Ojo Ifabomi (aged 23 years), Tunde Balogun (aged 24 years), Dayo Badmus (aged 21 years), Adegunlola Tayo (aged 20 years) and Simon Michael (aged 21 years).

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources in the state, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the arrest in a statement on his verified X handle on Monday afternoon as he added that they had been robbing motorists and commuters, especially those who used the bridge early in the morning and late at night, dispossessing them of their valuables.

The commissioner wrote: “This arrest is part of our ongoing efforts to reclaim public spaces, protect commuters, and dismantle criminal activities that thrive around critical transport corridors. Bridges, highways, and pedestrian routes must remain safe for law-abiding Lagosians, not havens for crimes.”

He added that the arrested young men are currently in custody giving more useful information about their nefarious activities and they will be prosecuted at the conclusion of the investigation.
