The gasoline unit at Nigeria’s 650,000 barrel-per-day Dangote refinery may be shut down for between two and three months to allow for repairs, market intelligence firm IIR Energy said in a client note on Thursday.
The report, cited by Reuters Africa, did not provide details of the technical issues involved or whether the temporary shutdown would affect the refinery’s broader operations.
The $20 billion Lagos-based refinery, touted as Africa’s largest, has been seen as a game changer for Nigeria’s fuel supply, with expectations that it will ease the country’s long-standing reliance on imported refined petroleum products.
If confirmed, the outage could delay the refinery’s efforts to scale up gasoline output to meet domestic demand and potentially dampen early market optimism about its role in stabilizing fuel prices.
Officials of Dangote Industries Limited have yet to issue a statement on the reported repairs.
