A joint security team led by the Anambra State Police Command has destroyed a militia camp linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Aguluezechukwu, Aguata Local Government Area.

The coordinated operation, carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, September 2, lasted more than five hours and involved troops from the 302 Artillery Regiment, the 14 Field Engineer Regiment, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Anambra State Vigilante (Agunechemba).

Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the camp was dislodged and destroyed, forcing the militia members to flee. “Several of them escaped with varying degrees of gunshot wounds,” he stated.

Security operatives recovered a white Lexus 470 SUV and several Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from the site.

Ikenga added that the area has since been stabilized and remains calm, with continuous monitoring to prevent a resurgence. He assured residents that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.

The police command reiterated its commitment to restoring peace in the state, urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperative with security agencies.
