The Kano State Police Command has arrested three men for allegedly impersonating security personnel and defrauding a victim of more than one million naira.
The suspects – 30-year-old Nasiru Adamu from Sokoto, 49-year-old Yusuf Sani, and 25-year-old Aliyu Yusuf, both from Daura Local Government Area of Katsina State – were apprehended on Tuesday, September 2, at about 1:30 p.m. in Danagundi Quarters, Kano.
Police said the trio obtained ₦1,030,000 from their victim, identified as Salisu Ibrahim, after posing as security operatives. According to investigators, the suspects deceived Ibrahim by claiming to possess “special abilities” that could help him, and instructed him to hand over the money at a specific location, where they planned to give him further instructions in whispers.
Following a distress call from Ibrahim, operatives moved swiftly and, with help from members of the public, arrested the suspects.
Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said investigation is ongoing and the men will be charged to court once inquiries are concluded.
The command called on other possible victims of similar scams to come forward and assist with the investigation. Citizens have also been urged to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency contacts.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended both his operatives and the public for their roles in the arrest. He assured that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property, while sustaining its current “Operation Kukan Kura” against crime in the state.
