The Lagos State government on Thursday morning sealed off a restaurant after it was accused of using pumping machine to discharge its raw sewage into public drainage.

The facility, known as Ejanla Restaurant at Number 40, Fola Osibo Street, Lekki, was sealed off by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) following complaints about residents of the area.

It was gathered that for sometime, the restaurant has been in the habit of discharging its sewage into the drainage with the use of a pumping machine, thereby causing offensive odour in the community.

Following the complaints received, officials of the agency went to the facility on Thursday morning and were angry over what they described as raw sewage being discharged into the drainage through the pumping machine.

The officials immediately sealed off the restaurant while the owner is expected to face sanctions.

The Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources in the state, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, while reacting to the sealing off of the restaurant, said every act of environmental nuisance and pollution portends grave dangers to public health and will be met with appropriate sanctions and or prosecution.

He added that the shameful act caused offensive odour in the community, constituted public nuisance, environmental pollution and endangered human life.
