Men of the Yobe State Police Command are currently handling a case involving a man who engaged in a battle with four brothers over a divorced woman, killing one of them with an axe and injuring the three others.
The incident occurred on Monday, June 29, at Kalam Hamlet, Damaturu, the state capital.
It was gathered that operatives of the ‘A’ Division, Damaturu, responded to a distress call they received around 11:00 p.m. on the same day concerning the violent clash involved the persons.
According to reports, one of those involved, Abubakar Hassan, aged 30 years, had a disagreement with another man, Buba Usman, aged 23 years, over a divorced woman apparently regarding amorous affairs.
During the confrontation, angry Abubakar went home and came back with his three brothers — Ibrahim Hassan, Isa Hassan and Aliyu Hassan — to the scene of the confrontation.
A fight was said to have ensued and during the clash, Buba Usman attacked Ibrahim Hassan with an axe, inflicting a deep cut on his neck which resulted in his instant death.
He further used the axe to inflict injuries on Abubakar Hassan, Isa Hassan and Aliyu Hassan.
However, as the situation escalated, a mob was formed which attacked Buba Usman with arrows, causing injuries to his abdomen.
A distress call was made to police operatives regarding the violence and upon receipt of the call, the operatives visited the scene, rushed the injured persons to the Teaching Hospital, Damaturu, for medical attention, while the body of one of the brothers was deposited at the hospital morgue and later released to the familly for burial.
“The principal suspect, who is currently receiving treatment at the Teaching Hospital, Damaturu, has confessed to the crime. Investigation is ongoing,” the command said in a statement on Tuesday, June 30.
