A 16-year-old teenager who was arrested after his gang carried out a robbery operation has told men of the Anambra State Police Command that the object that looked like a pistol found with him was used to threaten his victims during robbery operations.
Operatives of the command attached to B Division, Amansea, in the early hours of Wednesday, September 2, arrested the teenager, Udochukwu Nwankwo, in connection with an armed robbery incident in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area of the State.
The operatives also recovered a shiny metallic lighter designed like a pistol, which he used to threaten and dispossess victims of their valuables.
According to the command, preliminary information revealed that the teenager, alongside two other accomplices currently at large, attacked a lady at a hotel in the area, snatched her mobile phone and other personal belongings after threatening her with the object.
During his interrogation, the boy was said to have confessed that he used the recovered object to threaten victims during robbery operations.
He was said to have given more useful information to the police operatives while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
“Following the development, the command has intensified investigation and ongoing efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects, recover the stolen phone and other valuables, and bring all those found culpable to justice,” the command said in a statement on Wednesday.
