After killing of more than 20 persons in Doma village, Tafoki ward of Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State last month, a notorious bandits leader has imposed a fresh N40 million levy on the residents.
Bandits were said to have invaded the village in the middle of February, killing more than 20 residents and abducting others whose whereabouts remain unknown.
However, one month after the attack, a notorious bandits leader, whose name was given as Isiya Kwashen Garwa, reportedly visited the village, met the leaders and demanded N40 million levy which he said was meant for the residents to enjoy peace.
A source close to the local government told Impact Nigeria News Online on Saturday afternoon that many families are now fleeing the village for safety, fearing further violence as they cannot afford the demanded payment after the devastation already inflicted on them.
This fresh demand for levy is unfolding despite a peace deal reportedly reached between Faskari Local Government Area stakeholders and the bandits leader in November and December last year.
However, the source added that despite the amount demanded by the bandits leader from the villagers, the state government and various security agencies seem to have looked the other way and leave the villagers to their fate.
