The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Thursday night announced the arrest of a commercial vehicle driver in Gombe State for what it called “dangerous overloading” of the vehicle.
The FRSC announced the development on its verified X handle on Thursday night, as it said the driver was arrested on the highway by the Cham Unit Command Patrol Team in Gombe city, the state capital.
The driver was found to have loaded his Toyota Sienna space bus beyond the capacity of the vehicle, as more loads were put on top, making it to look wobly.
In the photograph posted by the FRSC, the vehicle, apparently Interstate one, carried all forms of goods, including bicycle, drums, kegs, among others.
The FRSC wrote: “Overloading endangers lives by weakening vehicle stability, straining tyres and brakes, and increasing the risk of crashes.
“Motorists are therefore strongly advised to desist from this dangerous practice. No trip or profit is worth a life lost to preventable recklessness. Let us all obey vehicle load limits and keep our roads safe for eve
ryone.”
