Some bandits on Tuesday evening killed an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at a federal road in Katsina State and took away his motorcycle.
The bandits killed the officer, Ibrahim Dalhatu Tafoki, along the Funtua–Tafoki road in the Faskari Local Government Area of the state, after they saw him alone riding his motorcycle along the road.
Sources in the state told Impact Nigeria News Online on Wednesday, December 24, that the attack occurred within an area that has recently witnessed several peace and reconciliation efforts with bandits aimed at restoring calm.
The late FRSC officer was said to be the younger brother of Honourable Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki, member of the House of Representatives representing Kankara–Faskari–Sabua Federal Constituency.
He was also a son of Tafoki traditional leader, Alhaji Dalhatu Tafoki, as the source said his killing, which had thrown the Tafoki community in disarray, raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of ongoing peace initiatives in the local government Area.
The source added that his remains will be buried later on Wednesday according to Islamic rites.
The Northern part of the country, including the North-West, has been under the grip of attacks by bandits who invade people’s homes, kill sone and abduct others, after which ransoms are demanded.
In some instances, bandits are said to have levied communities of various sums running into millions of naira with an assurance that they will enjoy relative peace if the levies are paid.
However, reports said after paying the said levies, the bandits still come around to attack residents, taking away their foodstuffs and other valuables.
