Some bandits on Sunday night shot a young man who tried to stop them from abducting his father when they invaded their residence, as the marauders eventually left with the old man.
The incident occurred Kururawa community of Lakwaya district, Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, when the bandits, riding motorcycles, stormed the residence of Alhaji Yakubu Na Tsohuwa in order to abduct him.
A competent source close to the community told Impact Nigeria News Online on Monday morning that as the bandits were about to take him away, his eldest son, whose name was given simply as Badamasi, tried to stop them from doing so.
His action was said to have infuriated them, causing one of the bandits to shoot him in the leg before taking the father away into the forest.
The son was said to have been rushed to a nearby hospital and he is currently receiving treatment for the injury sustained.
The Northern region, especially the North-West, has been under the grips of bandits and terrorists who raid communities, unleash terror, kill residents and abduct others. They will then demand for ransom for the release of captives.
In some of the communities, bandits have entered into ‘peace deals’ with the leadership, promising them protection after payments are made by the communities. Some of the bandits also impose levies on the communities in order to allow them go about their businesses.
